Background

Jonathan is a PhD student in the Department of Computer Science, advised by Dr. Diana Franklin. He received BAs in Computer Science and Math at UC Berkeley, and then spent a year doing research at Duke University supervised by Dr. Kristin Stephens-Martinez on tracking student progress to generate individualized practice quizzes in introductory computer science. He is also an instructor for the online math school Art of Problem Solving.

Research

Jonathan’s work broadly focuses on computer science course design. His main focus is on developing lightweight curriculum design and course policy interventions to make computer science theory courses more approachable to undergraduate students, but  he has also analyzed curricula for middle school, high school, and MOOCs, with the goal of determining if/how they are suitable for a wide variety of learners.
