Background

Emma is a doctoral student at the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. She graduated from Crown with an A.M. in Social Work and received her B.A. in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She was a 2018-2019 NSEP Boren Fellow in Jordan. She previously worked as an elementary school teacher in Palestine and a school-based social worker in Chicago.

Research

Emma’s general research focus is school mental health, with a particular interest in trauma-informed practices and environmental determinants of child mental health. She currently works on mental health prevention research in Azerbaijan, which examines mental health and school-based outcomes among at-risk youth. She is also interested in the impact of global climate change on youth and schools, including the role of school-based psychosocial supports in disaster recovery.
